Hello and welcome to Independent Artist Advice! It’s logical to start with an introduction. So here’s the what and why of your (hopefully) new favourite indie resource.
What is Independent Artist Advice?
Independent Artist Advice is a website offering free advice for bands, musicians, producers and songwriters.
Maybe you’re a beginner guitarist with dreams of setting foot on stage. Here you’ll find methods to level up your skills to get you ready. Or maybe you want to increase exposure for your band to hit the next stage in your music career. Here you’ll discover tips and tricks to get your music heard.
In due course, I’ll write a series of articles. There’s plenty to cover from learning to play the guitar to looking after your mental health when on the road. I want to offer actionable advice, regardless of age, genre or career level.
Who Am I?
I’m an independent musician with a shedload of experience and knowledge. From gazing up at a poster of my hero, I was soon sitting on the same tour bus playing the guitar with them. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Yet, I’ve found myself at many crossroads during my career, even when I had representatives such as managers, agents, and labels. There are a lot of things I wish I knew then that I know now.
Nowadays, I still write and record music. Once it’s in the blood, it’s hard to lose, right? However, life changes. I’m no longer touring, so this has allowed me the time to write memoirs and subsequently start Independent Artist Advice.
Why Use Independent Artist Advice?
It’s free advice! No expensive consultations. No lawyer fees. No managers taking a percentage. Simply go to Independent Artist Advice and take that knowledge on your journey.
Throughout my years performing in bands, I’ve learned harsh lessons. I don’t want you to make the same mistakes. So, through the guise of anonymity, I’m going to tell you everything I know. I’ll look at what I did right and what I got catastrophically wrong. I suppose when you look at it like that it’s going to be a cathartic journey right?
If you’re going to ‘make it’, sooner or later, you’ll be an independent musician. Whatever stage you’re at, you’ll hit snags in your music career and, as an independent musician, there’s no record label to guide you. So have a browse and pick up hints and tips to help you along the way.
Submit for Music Reviews
My love of music is at the heart of what I do. As touring became more difficult for me due to health reasons I turned to writing about music. I hope you can tell! This has led me to write music articles for well-known national press and music reviews. I love hearing new music. I understand how hard it is to get good quotes. From pestering people to listen for 10 seconds to constant emails begging for a review, it shouldn’t be like that. So through MusoSoup, I’ll offer music reviews for new music offering you a well-written thought-out with quotes you can use to your heart’s content.
So, that’s it for now. Make sure you follow the socials to keep up to date with new posts and reach out if there are any questions you need answering.
